Photo of the Month - Columns

The above image was taken by Bernie Hynes during a PACC Field Trip to the Ringling Museum in Sarasota on Oct 24, 2011. It was taken with a Nikon D2X, using a Nikon 35-105mm zoom lens at a 85mm focal length. The camera settings were 1/13 sec. at f/16 using matrix metering. Bernie added this information about creating the effect in Photoshop. "The original was just a bit soft so I decided to give it a painterly treatment. Often the first step in creating a painterly image is to blur it a bit so this image was the perfect candidate. The basic treatment was to create a line drawing on a layer above the original and change the layer blending mode to multiply. A white layer was then slipped under and using an eraser set at a low opacity, the outside edge was removed to an irregular shape. Finally a dark stroke was applied to keep the viewers eyes inside the image." This image received a Blue Ribbon in the FCCC 2012 3rd Tri Annual Print Competition.
